Roast Turkey

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and position the oven rack one level below the center.
  2. Prepare the Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Prepare the Turkey: Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey cavity. Tuck the wings under the turkey or tie them back with kitchen twine.
  4. Rub the Turkey: Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, ensuring it is evenly coated. Make sure to rub some of the mixture under the skin for extra flavor.
  5. Prepare the Oven Bag: Sprinkle the inside of the oven bag with 1 tablespoon of flour and shake it around to coat the interior. This helps prevent the bag from bursting during cooking.
  6. Add Vegetables and Turkey: Place the roughly chopped onion, carrots, and celery into the bottom of the bag. Place the turkey on top of the vegetables.
  7. Seal and Vent the Bag: Seal the oven bag with the provided tie. Cut six small slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape during cooking.
  8. Place in Roasting Pan: Carefully place the bagged turkey in a large roasting pan.
  9. Roast the Turkey: Roast the turkey according to its size:
  • 12-15 pounds: 2 to 2.5 hours
  • 15-20 pounds: 2.5 to 3 hours
  • 20-24 pounds: 3 to 3.5 hours The turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  1. Rest the Turkey: Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest in the bag for 20 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, making the turkey even more moist and flavorful.
  2. Carve and Serve: Carefully remove the turkey from the bag and transfer it to a serving platter. Carve the turkey and serve with your favorite holiday sides.
