- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F and position the oven rack one level below the center.
- Prepare the Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Prepare the Turkey: Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey cavity. Tuck the wings under the turkey or tie them back with kitchen twine.
- Rub the Turkey: Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, ensuring it is evenly coated. Make sure to rub some of the mixture under the skin for extra flavor.
- Prepare the Oven Bag: Sprinkle the inside of the oven bag with 1 tablespoon of flour and shake it around to coat the interior. This helps prevent the bag from bursting during cooking.
- Add Vegetables and Turkey: Place the roughly chopped onion, carrots, and celery into the bottom of the bag. Place the turkey on top of the vegetables.
- Seal and Vent the Bag: Seal the oven bag with the provided tie. Cut six small slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape during cooking.
- Place in Roasting Pan: Carefully place the bagged turkey in a large roasting pan.
- Roast the Turkey: Roast the turkey according to its size:
- 12-15 pounds: 2 to 2.5 hours
- 15-20 pounds: 2.5 to 3 hours
- 20-24 pounds: 3 to 3.5 hours The turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
- Rest the Turkey: Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest in the bag for 20 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, making the turkey even more moist and flavorful.
- Carve and Serve: Carefully remove the turkey from the bag and transfer it to a serving platter. Carve the turkey and serve with your favorite holiday sides.
