Making the Custard Cream

  1. Prepare the Egg Yolks: In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth.
  2. Combine Flour and Sugar: Add the flour and sugar to the egg yolks, and whisk until well combined.
  3. Heat the Milk: In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
  4. Temper the Egg Mixture: Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking continuously to temper the eggs.
  5. Cook the Custard: Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
  6. Add Vanilla Extract: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Transfer the custard to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap (directly touching the surface to prevent a skin from forming), and let it cool completely.
